Building Disability-Forward Housing in Bothell: What's New
IDDeal Living has entered a new partnership to bring disability-forward housing to Bothell, Washington. We're now working with The Kelsey, a housing organization with deep, national experience designing and delivering inclusive housing for people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
Why this matters
Adults with I/DD face a severe shortage of housing that supports independence, choice, and full community participation. Many rely on fixed benefits far below what's needed for market-rate housing in the Seattle region, while also needing support with daily living, communication, or healthcare coordination — support that conventional affordable housing rarely provides. Too often, existing housing options isolate residents or tie their tenancy to a single service provider. Our project is designed to close that gap.
What we're building
IDDeal Living brings site control over our one-acre Bothell property and deep knowledge of the local service system. The Kelsey brings a proven, replicable disability-forward housing model. Together, we're advancing a project built around three interconnected pieces:
Accessible, affordable homes across a range of incomes, applying Inclusive Design Standards that go beyond minimum code to address mobility, sensory, cognitive, and neurodivergent access needs
Community spaces and programming that build genuine belonging and connection among neighbors
Independent access to services — support that residents can access without their housing being contingent on staying with a particular provider
We anticipate reserving 25%–50% of homes for people with I/DD using Home and Community-Based Services, with the remaining homes open to a broader mix of income-eligible households.
What's next
We're currently in conversation with a short list of experienced regional development partners and expect to select a local co-developer soon to join IDDeal Living and The Kelsey as a full technical partner. From there, the project moves through community engagement, design, entitlement, and financing — with construction targeted for a future phase.
We're deeply thankful to everyone who has supported this project so far, and to our earlier development partners for their contributions to getting us this far. We'll keep this page updated as the project progresses.
